First rant: The Worth of Money

What is money? People think dollar bills, coins, etc. Many different countries have many currencies, all different, but with the same concept: it's a medium of exchange, and a measure of "wealth". There are different ways to store this so-called "wealth", such as savings accounts, security deposits, etc. each with a different liquidity. Inflation and exchange rates rise and fall every minute, because each form of currency has it's backing and gets it's worth based on the amount of gold there is behind it. Gold, a "precious metal". So, in theory, the only thing with worth is gold, right? The more gold you have, the more "wealthy" you are, correct?

Well, what is it we use this money for? To purchase goods. Whether it's needs or wants, the money is used to buy things. Well, wouldn't these things be all that have "worth" then? I mean, the more money we have, the more we can buy. The more we buy, the more power we have. Which means that these things we buy are worth more than the gold. The only problem is, we use these things, and they lose "value". When something is used up, you can't get any more "worth" out of it. But, the use of these items prove their "worth". So what do we use these things for?

We buy them for the people. People use these things! When you are hungry, you buy food, and use it. When you're bored, you buy something to do. When you want to please yourself, or want to show off your "wealth", you buy something to do so. So our wants and needs are the only thing with any true worth. They are all that have value. You lose "wealth" to take care of people, making people more important than your goods you buy, which is more important than gold, which is more important than money.

Wants and needs make people selfish, however. Every single thing we do is for ourselves. Of course there's the buying things for ourselves, that's obvious. But, think about it: when we do something like give to charities, it seems selfless, right? And when you do it, you've helped another person. Sure makes you feel better about yourself, right? Exactly. When you buy things for your kids, you make them happy. I'm sure if you didn't buy them something, they'd be pretty sad. That'd probably make you feel a little guilty, wouldn't it? And no one wants to feel guilty...

So, our own feelings control our needs and wants. Follow the cycle up...and our feelings control everything. The basis behind our entire existence is our own selfishness. Greed runs our lives, whether you admit it or not. There is no selflessness. You die for someone, it is because YOU want that person to live. It all resorts back to what the individual wants The only thing that has any worth to anyone is themselves. Don't sit there and try and think about it, it's how it is, has been, and always will be. Everyone is the most selfish person alive; there's no changing it, just live with it. Quit calling each other selfish, self-absorbed, etc. We are all made with the same greed, just different ways of fulfilling our own selfishness.

That's the worth of money.

This has been a random bored rant by Steven Thiem. I don't think I really accomplished much... But thank you. :)

(hey, I just found the meaning of life! I'd make a pretty good Psychologist, eh? Probably wouldn't fit much into economics or money management with this knowledge that I only want to make myself happy...maybe it's my life's purpose to let everyone know how self-centered they are!!! :P weird thing is, it'd only affect them for a little bit to think about it, but then go right back to how they were before, cuz it's how it's always been anyway...okay, I'll stop now.)
